Description
scent description/story: This time of year, the tender new seedlings and spring flowers beckon us to walk amongst them. In doing so, we sometimes fail to avoid the plants we should not touch.
Nature tends to intermingle beauty and danger, poison and cure. Traditional wisdom says that every ailment is a close neighbor to it’s antidote. The bright and delicate flowers of the jewelweed are at home in the moist, wooded areas that also harbor poison ivy, poison oak, and stinging nettle. Hikers, natives, and folk medicine have used jewelweed for hundreds of years to soothe the itch and sting of that which they did not avoid.
Inspired by the “weeds” of the creeks and ditches and the heritage recipes of old, I have formulated a cleansing soap using jewelweed, plantain, and comfrey. I make no healing claims, but experts agree that the first thing you should do when exposed to these plants is wash, wash, wash.
ingredients: Lard, Aqua (Water), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Symphytum Officinale (Comfrey) Root Powder, Plantago Lanceolata (Plantain) Leaf Powder, Impatiens Capensis(Jewelweed), sodium Chloride(sea salt), Raw TX Honey, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter
approx.weight: 3-4oz
quantity: 1 bar
disclaimer and how to use: For external use only. Store upright, in a dry location. If irritation occurs, discontinue use. Soap is best used within 12 months of purchase. It is still perfectly wonderful to use long after 12 months, but the pleasurable scent is subject to fade over time.
I am highly allergic to poison ivy, which means that I can break out when the wind blows over the leaves and I’m outside. Any outbreak usually lasts 3-4 weeks. I’ve tried calomine lotion as well as baking soda; I’ve tried creams and lotions; I’ve also tried benadryl and other oral medications. None of these gave any measurable relief. Andrea suggested I try this soap so I did. I washed per instructions on day one. The next morning swelling was gone and the itch was significantly less. The following morning the rash was significantly drier and spreading had stopped. I would strongly recommend this soap.
Thank you for your comment, and I’m glad this soap worked well for your needs. Touch Me Not is formulated to be highly cleansing, which helps remove stubborn plant oils. It is also full of the skin loving botanical benefits of plantain, comfrey, and jewelweed. Enjoy your time in nature, and don’t forget to wash.
